Description

Hemodialysis is a renal replacement therapy in patients with end-stage renal disease. It is based on the mechanism of diffusion and removes from the patient’s body low molecular weight uremic toxins and excessive fluids. HD sessions occur thrice weekly, 4 hours each time. In every HD session, the patient’s blood is transferred through special tubes to the HD dialyzer (membrane) where the uremic toxins are removed and then it returns to the patient’s body.

HD with high quality dialyzers (high convective fluxes)

Besides form and technique, an important aspect of HD is the dialyzer and especially the filter (membrane). A high-flux synthetic dialyzer has a membrane that allows low and middle molecular weight uremic toxins to pass through and therefore better clearance is achieved.
